A benefit fraudster who hoovered up thousands of pounds of taxpayers money has been jailed.
Denise Dyson (her name was Dyson so she hoovered up benefits, get it) one half of a married couple who unlawfully acquired more than £45,000 between them – was jailed for nine months at Manchester Crown Court.
dysonDyson, of Newland Avenue, Pemberton, failed to notify the Department of Work and Pensions of her marriage to husband Terence in 2001 and that she was living with him. Between 2006 and 2011 she claimed income support as a single occupant plus Council Tax benefit from the council and was overpaid £22,000 in total.
I love this bit, Mrs Dyson did not inform her family that she was due in court and a missing persons report was filed in her name when she did not return home after her hearing.
Dyson fooled authorities by claiming her benefits under her maiden name of Denise Anglesea. She had also received a previous conviction in 2010 for working while in receipt of benefits, unlawfully claiming more than £9,000, and received a 12-month Community Order.
Earlier this year Terence Dyson escaped a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to three theft offences. The 65-year-old stole £24,000 worth of plumbing equipment from Bryn-based Norstrom Group during his time as its divisional manager. He received a 10-month prison sentence suspended for a year, 200 hours’ unpaid work and was hit with a curfew.

Two other men who did not have the right to work in the UK were also encountered at the restaurant. They were not arrested, but must now report to the Home Office. Yeah right they’ll have it away on their toes never to be seen again.

jg34WKSEe5b6tIzBUCmFbzEWp4fA GP practice manager who defrauded her employer of £150,000 by inflating her own salary and falsifying overtime payments has been sentenced to 18 months in prison following an investigation supported by NHS Protect. (Manchester Crown Court, Friday 26th April).

Alison Westley, 62, of East Avenue, Burnage, Manchester, worked for a total of 12 years as a practice manager. She was employed first at the Archwood Medical Practice, Woodley, Manchester and then at Woodley Health Centre, Hyde Road, following a merger.

Her new colleagues discovered a number of financial irregularities. Further investigations revealed that Westley had been consistently paying herself an inflated salary and overtime payments, as well as drawing cheques made payable to herself from practice accounts.
Westley created large numbers of fictitious invoices, purportedly for the supply of goods and services, including drug supplies, to the practice. At the peak of her offending, she diverted up to £3,000 a week from practice funds. Supported by NHS Protect and Stockport PCT, Greater Manchester Police conducted a full financial investigation, which concluded that Westley’s offences had cost the practice £150,000.
She was arrested in September 2012 and pleaded guilty in March 2013 to seven offences of False Representation, contrary to section two of the Fraud Act 2006.

Seemed like a good idea at the time?

Andrew Pimlott, 32, had doused himself in petrol and was threatening to kill himself when he was shot by the police with a stun gun and burst into flames. Petrol fumes, 50,000 volts , sparks, no concern for health & safety here but then police were not in danger.
taser_532_1506070aPimlott suffered serious burns and was rushed to hospital but died five days later.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is now investigating whether the Taser gun that was fired by police caused Mr Pimlott to suffer the fatal burns. ‘Allo’ ‘allo’ ‘allo’, surely a spontaneous combustion cause of death is not in the air.

Do you know an average of three people are shot with stun guns every day by police.

Anyway I digress, police were called to Mr Pimlott’s house in Plymouth, Devon, after a 999 call reporting a man in the garden with a can of flammable liquid, watch out you Barbecue fanatics.
Neighbours described hearing an ‘explosion’ after the incident and Mr Pimlott was rushed to hospital. He died on Tuesday at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol.
Jack Fry, 20, was with his friend Brett Griffiths, also 20, at a house backing onto the scene.
He said: “There were three screams. Brett opened the curtains and at first he thought the house was on fire.
“But then we saw a man, fully on fire, from top to bottom, like what you see on a film, with his arms swaying around.”

Mr Fry said he saw police jump on the burning man and put him on the floor, using a cover to try and put the flames out. Other neighbours said they heard an explosion.

Mr Pimlott was rushed to hospital after the incident on April 18th, where police said he had non-life threatening injuries. Oh well, they can’t be right every time.

But the IPCC has since revealed Mr Pimlott died of his injuries and will now investigate what information the officers knew about him before the taser was fired and the reason for using it.

WikipediA says:

Tasers, like other electric devices, have been found to ignite flammable materials. For this reason Tasers come with express instructions not to use them where flammable liquids or fumes may be present, such as filling stations and methamphetamine labs.

An evaluative study carried out by the British Home Office investigated the potential for Tasers to ignite CS gas. Seven trials were conducted, in which CS gas canisters containing methyl isobutyl ketone (a solvent in all CS sprays used by the United Kingdom police) were sprayed over mannequins wearing street clothing. The Tasers were then fired at the mannequins. In two of the seven trials, “the flames produced were severe and engulfed the top half of the mannequin, including the head”.

Two immigration offenders arrested at a Rickmansworth restaurant have been removed from the UK. Gor Blimey, stone the crows illegal workers do get deported.
Buon CiboOfficers from Home Office immigration enforcement visited Buon Cibo in Station Road on 12th April.
Checks revealed that two members of staff – a woman, 25, and a man, 26, both from Brazil – had no permission to be in the UK. The woman had entered the UK illegally and the man had overstayed his visa.
Both were taken into immigration detention ahead of their removal from the UK on Wednesday (17th April).

It is the second time in 3 months that immigration offenders have been arrested at Buon Cibo. On 31st January, two Brazilian men who had overstayed their visas were detained by immigration officers. They have both since been returned to their home country.
The Home Office is currently considering whether the Buon Cibo will face penalties of up to £10,000 for each illegal worker caught in the two raids. Really, they should be considering whether to shut the business down for taking the ‘Jimmy Riddle’ (piddle) for getting caught twice this year employing Brazilian illegal workers. Is the owner some sort of nut?

A London hotel porter who had entered the UK on a student visa which had expired and was due to be deported back to India has been jailed for 10 years after raping an “extremely drunk” TV star as she slept in her room. Athough he was due for deportation, he was allowed to work as a night porter at the five-star hotel in west London.
cnlsobyjohn1Soby John, 25, used a colleague’s keycard to let himself into her room before sexually assaulting her. John used a latex glove as a makeshift condom and took explicit photographs on his mobile phone of his victim.
The attack took place at the Hilton London Metropole in Marylebone on 25rd October 2012 after the unnamed TV star in her early twenties had enjoyed a night out with friends in West London.

Southwark Crown Court heard how the victim now suffers with extreme anxiety, has trust issues with men, and is frightened of staying in hotels, as well as being on her own.
Lesley Jones, prosecuting, told the court: “(The victim) had woken during the night to find an Asian man on top of her having sex with her.” She said the victim “felt immobilised and unable to defend herself”, adding: “She said she felt his hand on her neck as she pushed him away but then she drifted into unconsciousness.”
Judge McCreath dismissed John’s claims the attack was due to him “floundering” in British society.
He will supposedly be deported to India after he has served his sentence. Yeah, will see!

UKBA duplicating news

Remember me telling you UK Border Agency are duplicating news of arrests and sentences on their news reports. Here’s another item received today that they reported on a couple of days ago.

Capture

An accountant who helped beneficiaries of an international sham marriage gang stay in the UK illegally has been jailed.
SCULSoloman Adekotujo, 58, of Heaton House, Heaton Road, Peckham, produced fake letters and payslips to the Home Office from European Economic Area (EEA) nationals, claiming they were exercising their treaty rights by working at his business. These so called employees were in fact part of a sham marriage ring that enabled non EEA nationals to remain in the UK illegally.
On 11th March 2013 a jury found Adekotujo guilty of conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and fraud following a six-day trial at Woolwich Crown Court. He was sentenced to five years and six months for the immigration charge and three months for the fraud charge, to run concurrently, at the same court on Friday 12th April.

When specialist investigators from the Home Office’s South London immigration crime team raided Adekotujo’s businesses – Solomon and Co, Scul Consulting and Moora Cargo Services – on the Old Kent Road in October 2012 they found letters of employment and accountancy documentation for the EEA nationals but no evidence that they had ever lived in the UK.
358sc1tOfficers linked Adekotujo to the sham marriage gang run by Nigerian nationals, which arranged for EEA ‘brides’ and ‘grooms’ to marry West Africans in return for cash.
All beneficiaries of the eight ‘marriages’ arranged by this criminal network have been identified and steps are being taken to remove them from the country. Officers in The Netherlands have also arrested alleged fake brides and grooms and prosecution is ongoing.

The ringleader of the ‘fixer’ gang, Waheed Salau, of Myrtle Road, Romford, is currently serving a four-and-a-half year jail sentence after admitting conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration in April 2012. Salau’s partner, Esther Obatuyi, also of Myrtle Road, was sentenced alongside him for the same offence. Accomplice Daniel Onasanya, of Lillechurch Road, Dagenham, is serving eight months for seeking leave to remain by deception.

Among those that Adekotujo falsely claimed worked for him were Dutch nationals Doanne Spanner and Soraida Decaster. Spanner was involved in a sham marriage to Salau to enable him to remain in the UK and assisted with travel arrangements as part of the criminal network. It is believed the ‘bride’ was an imposter as she and Salau never met in person.

Spanner was extradited from The Netherlands in October 2012 and sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting conspiracy to facilitate illegal immigration in the UK.
Decaster entered a sham marriage with Onasanya, although it is believed the bride was also an imposter, and has been arrested in Holland. Neither Spanner or Decaster have ever lived in the UK despite Adekotujo producing pay slips and letters to make it seem as if they had.
