A London hotel porter who had entered the UK on a student visa which had expired and was due to be deported back to India has been jailed for 10 years after raping an “extremely drunk” TV star as she slept in her room. Athough he was due for deportation, he was allowed to work as a night porter at the five-star hotel in west London.
Soby John, 25, used a colleague’s keycard to let himself into her room before sexually assaulting her. John used a latex glove as a makeshift condom and took explicit photographs on his mobile phone of his victim.
The attack took place at the Hilton London Metropole in Marylebone on 25rd October 2012 after the unnamed TV star in her early twenties had enjoyed a night out with friends in West London.
Southwark Crown Court heard how the victim now suffers with extreme anxiety, has trust issues with men, and is frightened of staying in hotels, as well as being on her own.
Lesley Jones, prosecuting, told the court: “(The victim) had woken during the night to find an Asian man on top of her having sex with her.” She said the victim “felt immobilised and unable to defend herself”, adding: “She said she felt his hand on her neck as she pushed him away but then she drifted into unconsciousness.”
Judge McCreath dismissed John’s claims the attack was due to him “floundering” in British society.
He will supposedly be deported to India after he has served his sentence. Yeah, will see!

The body was discovered by mechanics in the NHS Grampian van – a specialist mortuary vehicle – after it was left for repairs at the AM Phillip commercial vehicle servicing depot in Aberdeen’s Auchmill Road.
A spokeswoman for NHS Grampian today confirmed that a member of staff had been suspended while an independent investigation is carried out into the “distressing” discovery.
