A new trial date has been set for a vicar accused of up to 492 sham marriages.
The Reverend Nathan Ntege, 53, is charged with 14 immigration offences relating to hundreds of marriages held over a 15-month period at the Church of St Jude’s and St Aidan’s in Thornton Heath, Croydon.
Verger Brian Miller, 79, of Owl Close, Selsdon, is charged with the same offences.
Galina Petkova, 50, is alleged to have acted as a “fixer” for a number of weddings, as well as allegedly being married in one of the ceremonies herself, is charged with conspiracy and five counts of assisting illegal entry.
The trio, who have yet to formally enter pleas, appeared at Inner London Crown Court for what was due to be a case management last Friday.
A further case management hearing has been scheduled for January 20th ahead of a trial which is due to begin on January 27th.
Home Office investigators are not certain how many of the marriages, conducted between December 2009 and March 2011, were valid.
