Shed loads of illegal workers caught on 1st August in the land of the ‘sweaty socks’ (Jocks, Scotland), twenty-four in fact

sagar-tobermory-300x225Twelve immigration offenders have been caught following enforcement operations in Tobermory. Sounds like where that ‘saucepan lids’ (kids) programme comes from, oh that’s Balamory isn’t it. Anyway on 1st August, officers visited three restaurants on the Isle of Mull to carry out checks on the immigration status of staff working there.
At Crystal Palace, on Main Street, two Bangladeshi men aged 34 and 48 along with a 39-year-old Chinese man and a 44-year-old Chinese woman were arrested.
At Golden Dragon, also on Main Street, two Thai men aged 19 and 23 and a 20-year-old Thai woman were arrested.
Five Bangladeshi men aged between 55 and 31 were arrested at Sagar Balti House also on Main Street. Those arrested are currently detention while steps are taken to remove them from the country.

Six illegal workers from India have been arrested following an operation by enforcement officers in Glasgow.

Officers visited the Indian Delight on Smithycroft Road, Gulistan Tandoori on Beech Road, and Ruby Murray on Tollcross Road all in Glasgow on 1st August.
Checks on the immigration status of staff revealed two men at the Indian Delight, two men at the Gulistan Tandoori and two men at the Ruby Murray who had no right to work in the UK.
Three of the men have been detained pending their removal from the UK, while three have been left to their own devices and supposedly must report on a regular basis while their outstanding immigration applications are decided.

Six illegal workers from Bangladesh and India have been arrested following an operation by enforcement officers in Grantown- on- Spey.

Officers visited the Sylhet Brasserie/Fish and Chip Shop, on The Square, Grantown -on -Spey, on 1st August.
Checks on the immigration status of staff revealed four men from Bangladesh and two men from India who had no right to work in the UK. All the men are currently in detention while steps are taken to remove them from the UK.

Sham marriage arrests

eupakistanNine people have been arrested on Thursday 1st August in a series of simultaneous early morning raids carried out by officers at addresses in the Bury and Rochdale area. Seven of the people arrested are suspected of arranging and participating in sham marriages between Hungarian and Pakistani nationals and were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration.
The addresses visited that morning were:
Argyll Street, Bury where a 34-year-old Pakistani man and two women aged 18 and 23 from Hungary were arrested
Canning Street, Bury where three men aged 33, 30, and 27 from Pakistan were arrested.
Derby Street, Rochdale where a 25-year-old Hungarian woman and a man from Pakistan aged 26 were arrested.
Tweedale Street, Rochdale where a 24-year-old man from Pakistan was arrested.
A further two men who had not left the UK when their visas expired were also found and arrested, making a total of 11 arrests.

Jail for immigration fraud gang

Seven members of an organised immigration fraud gang have been jailed for more than 19 years on 2nd August at Manchester crown court.
Bangladeshi born Ataur Talukdar (also known as Ataur Rahman), 49 organised a gang of friends and relatives to illegally assist foreign nationals to remain in the UK.
Talukdar, was sentenced to 8 years after the jury found him guilty of fraud and assisting unlawful immigration.
The gang, which had criminal assets in excess of £700,000 passing through bank accounts, was caught following an investigation into their illegal activity in Hyde which took place between January 2006 and 2011.
Seven other members of the gang have already been sentenced before the trial, after pleading guilty to charges of fraud and assisting unlawful immigration and received prison sentences totalling 8 years. Eight years between seven doesn’t seem much.
