Mini Eggs sold for halfpenny

Posted: January 11, 2012 in General

Don’t you just love it when a superstore prices stuff up wrong and shoppers take advantage.

The latest is a glitch in Tesco systems that meant bags of Mini Eggs were being put through the till for half a penny.

The items were incorrectly priced at 1p with an additional buy one get one free offer – meaning that one shopper was able to buy 46 bags for just 23p. The glitch affected Tesco stores across the UK with problems reported in Bolton, Lea Valley and Penarth.

It wasn’t long before the mistake was put on the shopping site HotUkDeals, one user reporting that they “had the lot” from their local Tesco.
Other items were reported to have the same glitch with Lindor mini eggs going through the till at a penny, though without the buy-one-get-one-free deal. A user joked that they had “cleared out” the store after capitalising on the mistake.

Which reminds me of the ASDA mistake, the Friday after Christmas, when one of the Weller daughters spotted red single duvet covers in a sale for £2.50. Needless to say the aforementioned Weller daughter bought four to take advantage of ASDA’s mistake but last Friday they had reverted to the proper sale price of £12.50.

Topps Match Attax trading cards.

Here’s a bit of sharp practice from a company enabling them to rip kids off. One of the Weller grandkids buys these cards, depicting Premiership football players, with his pocket money which up until recently cost 50p for a packet of 6 but they became hard to find in his town recently until the cards reappeared £1 for a packet of 11.

It took some time to make said grandson understand that instead of doubling the number of cards he got he was in fact paying double for one card less than if he bought two packs of 6 at 50p. This is particularly galling because he has been collecting them for some time and is now finding he’s already got some of the cards. Today’s pack he was unwrapping contained four cards he already had.

Need for a breathalyser kit

By the way just to inform you in case you haven’t heard and are heading to France for a weekend break or summer holiday this year.
Drivers in France, from this Spring, are required to carry disposable breathalysers in their vehicles in a bid to cut the number of road deaths in France. Drivers caught without a breathalyser face a fine. So unless you want your holiday ruined before it actually gets going by some stroppy French policeman demanding money by the side of a French road you better buy one and stick it in your glove box.

No fingerprinting at our ports

Do you know most illegal immigrants caught trying to enter Kent through the Channel Tunnel no longer have their fingerprints taken.

The move is said to have given border staff at the Eurotunnel terminal in Coquelles, north of Calais, more time to search vehicles for offenders.

More staff taken on would be a better option I would have thought, particularly as this is Olympic year and the government appears to have gone overboard on security with fighter planes ready to shoot passenger aircraft down if they stray off course, Navy ships on the Thames as part of an early warning system and even medical staff inoculated against smallpox in case of biological terrorist attack.

Millions of £s spent on grandiose security measures against air or biological attack when some scruffy geezer, newly arrived in our country, with a rucksack on his back and wearing five pairs of underpants is the more likely threat.

Mind you some illegals don’t even have the gumption to move on from the port they probably arrived at.

Five immigration offenders were caught at New Moon Flower restaurant, High Street, Dover on 6th January.

After checking the immigration status of those on site, officers arrested four people who were in the UK illegally, two women from China aged 21 and 27, a 39-year-old man from China, and a 30-year-old man from Malaysia.
The 27-year-old woman and the Malaysian man had stayed in the UK after their visas had expired. The other two people had entered the UK illegally. All four are in immigration detention while steps are taken to remove them from the UK.

The fifth immigration offender netted, a 23-year-old woman from China who had not left the country after her visa expired was placed on immigration bail giving her chance to join the lost brigade of illegal immigrants and never to be seen again.
