Mugging gets a new name

Posted: December 27, 2011 in Law & Disorder

What is Det Sgt Chris Minnighan referring to when he says “intrinsically linked to the night-time economy in Westminster”?
Give up, mugging

Criminals are mugging people, ‘worse for wear’ due to alcohol, on nights out in central London by pretending to be their mates but then ‘half-inching’ (pinching) their valuables but police seem to think it’s just part of the night-time economy. In the 16th and 17th centuries this sort of stealing would have been dealt with by cutting off the robber’s ears. What’s that you say?
