More than 250,000 two-year-olds are to be given free nursery or childcare places in an attempt to force mothers to get work.
Gormless George Osbourne will outline a £650 million scheme to provide free “early education” for about 40% of two year-olds. The phrase “early education” is technical jargon for free babysitting service.
At present, all three and four-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours of nursery education for 38 weeks of the year, enabling mothers to hold down under 16 hours a week jobs whilst claiming Jobseeker Allowance although these working hours are not considered long enough as Downing Street David Cameron is threatening to cut benefits unless these part-timers get longer working hours.
The point these politicians seem to miss is there are 3 million people out of work already with few jobs about so there is a good chance that an extra quarter of million young mums are going to have to claim job seekers allowance as they will now become available to work.
A better approach would be to have mothers at home looking after their saucepan lids (kids) whilst school leavers take the part-time jobs until full time work opportunities turn up.
