IlieA police officer jailed for battering his wife is still receiving tens of thousands of pounds in wages, 19 months after being jailed.

PC George Park, 43, launched a string of horrific attacks on his terrified wife Frances, 44, and was held on remand in August 2009 until being convicted and sentenced last July

He got 18 months but walked free as he’d already served enough time on remand.

But Park – who had 17 years’ service and worked at Glasgow Sheriff Court – is still drawing his estimated £36,000 salary under police rules as he hasn’t yet been sacked from the Strathclyde force.

Last week Park, described in a social report as “potentially dangerous”, called in sick to a disciplinary hearing – meaning he will continue to be paid.

Suspended for stating the bleeding obvious!

If you watch Midsomer Murders you will have noted you don’t see many black or Asian faces. But a row blew up yesterday after the co-creator of the series revealed the reason why – he deliberately keeps ethnic minority characters out of storylines.

Brian True-May, the ITV drama’s executive producer, found himself suspended after he said he did not use black or Asian people in the series because ‘it wouldn’t be an English village with them’. Well the percentage of the white population of Britain is about 90% so no black faces in out of the way villages shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone but the brain washed do-gooders hell bent on finding racism where it doesn’t exist.

True-May described Midsomer Murders as the ‘last bastion of Englishness’ which relied on an ‘English genteel eccentricity’, claiming it ‘wouldn’t work’ if it suggested there was racial diversity in village life, too right mate.

Last night, amid mounting fury from charities and campaigners, the production company behind the show – All3Media – suspended the TV executive. ITV said it was ‘shocked and appalled’ at his remarks.

Ah well, if Midsomer Murders becomes politically correct for no reason other than the whim of the politically correct brigade that will be another programme the Weller family will not be watching.

An astonishing 181,000 migrants whose right to live in Britain has expired could still be here.

The figure includes workers, students and their relatives whose visas have run out in the last two years, and who have been refused permission to stay on.

The National Audit Office, which uncovered the statistic, said immigration officials ‘cannot be sure’ how many have gone home.

It found the UK Border Agency knew where all the failed applicants had lived in Britain – but has not checked if they are still there.
