Jacobs ripped me off!

IlieMrs W does like her Cheeselets at Christmas time but it is only now a box came to light in the garage where our Christmas goodies are kept, the garage being ‘bleeding cold’ acts as an overspill larder.

Anyway last night Mrs W opens up her ‘Fun Party Size’ seven inch high container to tuck in while she watches Taggart but ‘quel dommage’ a bit of schoolboy french still remembered, the Fun Party Size container is half empty; I’m afraid I’m a pessimist so it’s not half full. What a rip off!

It seems to me Jacobs are taking the urine here but the container is aptly named, ‘Fun‘ as in having a laugh and ‘Party Size‘ as at a party after a few drinks people won’t realise that the packet hasn’t been opened by some Billy Bunter whose eaten half the contents before putting the cheeselets down.
IlieTo me the container size is misrepresentation it gives the impression there are twice as many cheeselets than there really are. To the eco warrior the container represents twice the packaging required causing more needless loss of the planet’s hard pushed resources.

Anyway whichever way you see it the Weller family’s policy of never buying a company’s products ever again after being ripped off comes into force!

Here’s another example of a company having a bubble bath ‘laugh’ at the public’s expense

Delayed passengers at Sittingbourne station yesterday watched trains to London speed past the platform without stopping.
According to staff, the trains were allegedly playing catch-up without passengers after an earlier fatality in the Whitstable area. Apparently a woman died on the railway line after being hit by a train near Whitstable at 05:45 Tuesday.

About forty people were waiting for the 1330 train to Victoria, which sped past, quickly followed by another as it was announced the train was being cancelled. It appears Southeastern Trains were attempting to avoid late running penalty fines from the government, instead of picking up passengers.

Passengers who had bought high speed train tickets, having heard about delays to the Victoria service, then discovered on the St Pancras service that cheaper tickets to Victoria were being honoured because of the fatality. But ticket inspectors, who have the ability to upgrade and sell tickets on board, refused to issue refunds.

Same old, same old

A Pakistani man and Slovakian woman have appeared in court in relation to a suspected sham marriage in Watford.

Ghayoor Shah, aged 31, and Lenka Karapinova, aged 29, both of Victoria Road, appeared at Hatfield Magistrates Court on 13 January charged with conspiring to facilitate a breach of the UK’s immigration laws.

Both have been bailed to return to St Albans Crown Court on 4 April for a plea and case management hearing. Whether they turn up is a different matter. They had been arrested on Tuesday (11 January) just before they were due to marry at Watford Register Office in Clarendon Road.

Three other members of the wedding party were also arrested on suspicion of conspiring to facilitate a breach of the UK’s immigration laws. Immigration checks revealed that a 30-year-old Pakistani man, was a visa overstayer.
Another, a 33-year-old man, has been bailed until 8 March and the third, a 30-year-old woman, was released without charge.

A sixth person, Mounir Bejeau, was arrested during a subsequent search of a property in Albans Road related to the investigation. The 30-year-old Algerian was charged with possession of a false identity document. He also appeared at Hatfield Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody until 21 March for a plea and case management hearing at St Albans Crown Court.

All staff were illegal workers

IlieSam Pan Takeaway in the High Street, Stevenage was forced to close after a raid by UKBA officers revealed all six members of staff were in the country illegally.
There were five people working and a sixth, who turned out to be the head chef, resting in the staff accommodation above the takeaway.
The illegal workers were a Malaysian woman, aged 24, who had overstayed her visa; two Chinese men, aged 25 and 40, who had overstayed their visas; two Chinese men, aged 30 and 34, who were failed asylum seekers; a 34-year-old Chinese man who had entered the UK illegally and Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all!

Maybe I’m getting grouchy in my old age but that business should be shut down for good for such blatant use of illegal labour.

Figures show only 100,000 of the 297,000 workers who began new jobs between July and September 2010 were native Britons. Of the rest, 90,000 were born in Poland and other Eastern European countries that joined the EU in 2004, the remainder were born elsewhere in the world. On top of that we have all the thousands of illegal workers in this country too and ToffTory/LibDims want to cut benefits for the long term unemployed!
