Council to sell beach for a £1 to save money.

IlieWhat a state our country is in, our government gives away annually £10billion in foreign aid some of which goes to India who have the money to put satellite carrying rockets into space, although to be fair they do blow up before they get where they’re going to, yet says we are so broke massive cuts to vital services must be made. So broke in fact that West Dorset District Council has decided to sell Eype beach near Bridport for a £1.

The council justified the low asking price by the fact that the beach doesn’t generate any income. Nor do most of their bureaucratic staff I shouldn’t wonder. I remember many a camping weekend in this part of the world during the 60’s, all the camping gear stowed away on a couple of scooters,’ Mods on Holiday’ The cost of fuel to get from London to Bridport was 3 shillings and six pence!

A spokesperson for the council commented: “Eype Beach does not provide an income to the council but the property does have associated management costs and legal liabilities”, adding, “there is no reason why the council should continue to own it and recommends that it is sold.” Whoever said that wants sacking which will probably save the taxpayer a six figure wage annually. A more sensible cost saver.

By the way

IlieAt least 60,000 asylum seekers will be lost without trace as the UK Border Agency (UKBA) struggles to clear its backlog of claims.
Of the backlog of up to 450,000 claims identified in 2006, at least one in seven “will be concluded on the basis that the UK Border Agency (UKBA) has been completely unable to trace what has happened to the applicant”.

Rank-and-file police officers are being paid bonuses of up to £5,000 a year, just for doing their jobs.

Officers ranging from constables to chief inspectors are eligible to receive ‘competency-related threshold payments’ for reasons including good attendance and showing a willingness to learn. The total cost of the handouts is more than £160million.

So ToffTory Cameron is going to make it easy for companies in the private sector to get rid of useless workers yet in the public sector workers are given bonuses for just turning up for work, how mad it that?
