Yesterday I reported on a Nigerian sham marriage in Accrington , here’s some more sham marriages in Accrington.

IlieA Czech bride and Nigerian groom were jailed for their roles in two separate sham marriages.

At Burnley Crown Court, Olarotimi Ojugbele, a 41-year-old Nigerian national, living in Brixton, London, was jailed for 21 months for perjury and deception.

He and his ‘bride’, Nadesa Mirgova, a 26-year-old Czech national were arrested by the UK Border Agency after it emerged that they had taken part in a sham marriage on 9 May 2009 at St Andrews Church, Accrington, Lancashire. Both had pleaded guilty to charges at an earlier court hearing.

In a separate case, on the same day, at Burnley Crown Court Anna Gabcova, a 32-year-old Czech national was jailed for 16 months having previously pleaded guilty to perjury, assisting unlawful immigration and bigamy. Gabcova was arrested at her home address in Wavertree, Liverpool, after also entering into a sham marriage at St Andrews Church, Accrington, Lancashire, on 18 May 2009.

By the way

Harriet Harman has praised ‘heroic’ immigrants who claim welfare payments in Britain and use the cash to support families living abroad.

She said the Government should make it easier for them to send the money home and called for tax refunds to encourage more immigrants to follow suit, in particular those who paid for their children to be educated in the Third World.

So much for immigrants benefitting our economy!
