The man, in his 50s, was slumped outside a row of busy shops in Eastfield Road, Peterborough on Friday with his shopping bag containing milk at his side, for nearly two hours before someone finally came to his aid.

A passer-by, Tony Poll, dialled 999 at 1.09pm Friday afternoon after going over to see if the man was alright.

Mr Poll (33), who lives nearby in Saxon Road said, when he got closer he noticed the man’s face was discoloured and he was not breathing and so immediately alerted emergency services.

Ambulance workers worked for more than half-an-hour to try to revive the stricken man.

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious.

Police also confirmed they had yet to identify the deceased but officers would be making inquiries to track down and notify his family.
